Medasin Shares Story Of “IRENE” Talks Mental Heath, Drug Use, and More

The release of IRENE was more than just putting out new music. For Medasin, it meant sharing his story with the world. You see, music is made to express oneself; whether it’s used to dance or evoke feelings, you can’t deny the impact it’s had on human emotion over the years.

With that said, the 9-track album had a deeper meaning than most would come to know. After charting #1 in the Electronic section of iTunes, people have since connected with the project. Earlier this week the artist gave Billboard an exclusive interview where he dives into the recording and breaks down the origin of the album, along with a breakdown of each song.

“The idea of Irene is essentially me elusively telling the story of where Medasin came from,”

“Also, to convey the idea that simply sharing positivity and encouragement can actually set a huge thing into motion. Living in this way of sharing, healing and love can give birth to all kinds of shit, in my case, a music project. Irene might as well be considered a collaborator on this because if I had not simply crossed paths with her, my progress wouldn’t have been set into motion.” -Medasin

Irene was his intensive outpatient program counselor at Access Counseling Group, her rehab facility in Plano, Texas. For some reason, Irene was able to convince the would-be producer that his life was worth more than escapism. Irene helped him see a future, one where he could focus his energies into his creative passions and make something beautiful. Today, he shares a 9-track album, a soothingly subtle exploration of feelings bigger than words allow. It’s beautiful, and it’s dedicated to her, Irene.
