New York Native Squired is set on a mission to reveal why he shouldn’t be slept on. His newest single “Peace Out” proves guilty to this notion. I can’t even begin to explain how wild this record is, you’ve got fiery bars spitting rampant over an assortment of saw waves.
Giving us his best A$AP Rocky and Joey Bada$$ impression, this track reeks confidence. This young creative left quite the impression and in doing so I decided to get an exclusive interview with the 22-year-old.

How long have you been making music? What are some of your first musical memories?
“I’ve been producing original music for about 6 years now. Some of my earliest memories are practicing classic rock songs on guitar and drums like, “Pinball Wizard” by The Who and “Give Me Shelter” by the Rolling Stones.”
What first drew you to electronic music, and at what age?
“I first heard dubstep when I was 11 or 12. Frankly, I had no idea what it was and had never heard anything like it. It was like, “What the hell are these sounds?” It took me some time to warm up to it, but once I did, I got really into it and began exploring other genres of music like house and trap.”
How would you describe your current style, and how has it evolved?
“I’d say my current style is a blend of future bass, trap and dance music. When I first started producing, I really wanted to make progressive house music and house in general. Around 2012, I discovered artists like Flume, Mr. Carmack, and RL Grime. I just absolutely loved the uniqueness of their sounds, and I began trying to make music inspired by them. Those artists really helped to sonically shape a lot of the music that I create today.”
Who are your biggest inspirations musically, and who are your dream collaborators?
“Some of my biggest inspirations musically would have to be Flume, Skrillex, Medasin, Whethan, Tame Impala, and the Rolling Stones. My dream collaborators would definitely be Dua Lipa, Post Malone, Medasin, and Whethan.”
How do you stand out in the oversaturated industry/EDM scene?
“It’s definitely a ton more difficult to stand out here than it was even a few years ago since virtually anybody can put together a reasonably good bedroom studio. There are literally 13-year-olds with a midi keyboard and FL studio who are making seriously insane music.
Honestly, I feel like today you just really have to take risks with your sound and make music that people haven’t really heard before. While it’s great to start out by emulating others, there really is little point in trying to sound like someone who has already established themselves. You will always be better off experimenting and cultivating your own sound.”
You live in NYC, does the city/lifestyle inspire your music or the creative process?
“It definitely does! The energy in New York is so special and I absolutely love it here. Even when I’m in my apartment working on music I know that outside everyone is hustling, grinding away to achieve their various life and career goals. Walking around the streets of New York and looking up and down avenues that feel like and often are straight out of the movies never get old. The atmosphere here really inspires my music!”
What are some of your favorite places to go in NYC for inspiration (or in general)?
“I used to live in Little Tokyo and just being there was amazing. I really love going to DUMBO in Brooklyn. Walking on the river and just relaxing in the parks because the view of Manhattan is incredible over there. “
What’s next for Squired?
“Right now, I have so much music that I can’t wait to share with everyone. I can’t really speak too much on it, but I think it’s safe to say that I’ve been collaborating with artists that even a few years ago I could have only dreamed of meeting, let alone writing a song with. Will definitely be making some big announcement in the coming weeks and months. Just incredibly excited and grateful for what’s to come! Thank you!”
