Deadmau5 might be one of dance music’s biggest enigmas. In a world of overhyped music, and producers hyping up a track for two months before actually dropping it off, Deadmau5 is the one that will sneak up on Soundcloud over a long weekend and drop off random new songs. Whether they be original productions that he is still playing around with or more experimental stuff, or banging hip-hop remixes.
This weekend’s uploads include two remixes of legendary hip hop acts Jay-Z and The Beastie Boys. These remixes are anything but conventional. Deadmau5 takes Jay-Z’s “The City is Mine” and overlays the rapper’s unmistakeable voice over some gritty chord progressions that sound fantastic together.
Deadmau5 then catches The Beastie Boys “Hey Fuck You” fillets it, cooks it up in his kitchen and releases back into the world. The remix keeps the Brooklyn trio’s lyrics pretty much the same but puts it over some fresh production that includes clean drums, and a vibey bassline.
