Flamingosis – Great Hair [Floating Free Compilation]

Because hang-gliding melodies make up a significant part of Flamingosis‘s genes, it’s no surprise that these traits continue their expression on his latest compilation, Floating Free (from which we’ll be dropping a new track each week).

This time in “Great Hair,” droning woodwinds flow atop the electric organ like a lifeline stringing together the sky-surfing orchestral strings and horns. The layering of instrumentals happens at a pace gradual enough that it almost invites listeners to dissect this laid-back track’s ingredients. (Keep an ear out for the pinging triangle and what sounds like a cricket’s reverb-heavy chirp.) Like a head of hair made whole by the combination of myriad smaller strands, it’s the variety of instruments’ smaller contributions that make this track greater than the sum of its parts.
