Every year, over 14 million young girls are often forced into marriages with much older men. As a result of marrying at such a young age, these girls are “not only denied a childhood but often socially isolated and subjected to violence, and limited opportunities for education and employment.”
In an effort to help #ENDChildMarriageNow, RL Grime has teamed up with UNICEF in the form of a promotional video. The video, which uses RL Grime’s track Always, was shot in Chad, Africa where they have the third highest rate of child marriage. It follows the story of a child bride with a sad ending but expresses what a vital role education can play in the task of empowering girls & the change needed to end child marriages in general. For more information about UNICEF and how to help, visit their website here. Read what RL Grime had to say about the partnership below:
RL Grime on partnering with UNICEF:
Before UNICEF approached me for the video, I was unaware of this epidemic of child marriage that is plaguing Chad and other places globally. So when they came to me with the opportunity I was happy to be involved and help shed light on a very real world topic, and in the end hopefully bring new awareness to this difficult issue.
RL Grime on why he chose Always:
I think it’s a somber yet uplifting track… The lyric ‘I feel better when I have you near me’ really meshed well with the overall theme of the video, which to me hits on this sense of community.

It is NOT your business! It is THEIR culture! Stay out and leave them alone! It is NEVER your right to be the world police! Stand down from this campaign and find another subject worthy of your time and money, such as simple hunger and poverty. But, PLEASE STAY OUT OF THEIR CULTURE! You might as well invade India and oppose their arranged marriages! UNICEF is so damned f'n ignorant!

Well hello there, arranged marriage-guy
Alec Hancock says
No I agree, this is their culture. This is like someone coming in and destroying every restaurant that sells meat in the name of protecting their ancestors. Just because you don't get it, doesn't mean something is wrong.

Dying in childbirth is a cool culture?
