Italy’s illustrious dark duo AUCAN, is set to cause a “Riot” with the lead single from their forthcoming EP 1 out on Ultra Music, out this April. Framed around in-your-face synth patterns and blistering bass that makes you want to break everything in site, “Riot” is the epitome of what they are calling “anarchy trap”.
On the heels of big remixes of Skream, Die Antword and the Bloody Beatroots, AUCAN has transformed the current club formula of builds and drops upside down, with brutal beats and complex dark melodies. “Riot” is a crash course in what listeners can expect from the group’s shows, a power-driven, multimedia psychedelic rave melding dancefloor sensibilities with punk rock fire.
Aucan elaborates:
“Let’s just say in this Beatport Top 100 era, where everything sounds alike, we’re outsiders” says Jo. “Right now, we focus on distorted bass and keeping the rough, live elements, stayingaway from complex sound design and production gimmicks and allowing the emotions to build in real time. We don’t want to be the Yngwie Malmsteen of electronic music, we want to evoke dark feelings combining digital and analog sounds.” Aucanism, indeed.
