The Grammys signify some of the most influential releases of the year and this year’s nominations are packed with heavy hitters. This year, hip-hop has taken over the nominations with many prominent rappers dominating in multiple categories. Announced today, Post Malone, Drake, Cardi B, Childish Gambino, and Kendrick Lamar have swept the board over a number of categories and genres.
Post Malone garnered four nominations for Album of the Year, Record of the Year (“Rockstar”), Best Pop Solo Performance (“Better Now”), and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (“Rockstar”). Drake totaled five nominations for Album of the Year, Record of the Year (“God’s Plan”), Song of the Year (“God’s Plan”), Best Rap Song (“God’s Plan”), and Best Rap Performance (“Nice For What”). Cardi B also snagged five nominations for Album of the Year, Record of the Year (“I Like It”), Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (“Girls Like You” with Maroon 5), Best Rap Performance (“Be Careful”), and Best Rap Album. Childish Gambino stole five nominations with “This Is America” for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, and Best Music Video, and “Feels Like Summer” grabbing Best R&B Song. The hip-hop heavy nominations also graced Kendrick Lamar with five nominations, Travis Scott with three nominations, and Eminem with one nomination. Mac Miller was also posthumously nominated for Best Rap Album with Swimming.
On the electronic front, Zedd has been nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for his collaborative single “The Middle”. Diplo’s Silk City, Disclosure, Virtual Self, and Fisher have all been nominated for Best Dance Recording. Justice, SOPHIE, and TOKiMONSTA have all garnered nominations for Best Dance/Electronic Album.
