Mau5trap‘s latest investment comes in the form of a prodigious talent. Hailing from Australia, EDDIE is back to demonstrate his musical prowess. Putting forth his new “Spiritual Contraband” EP, the producer is quickly becoming a fan favorite on the label. For good reason as well. The 4 track project displays a diverse field of styles that were masterfully crafted at the hands of EDDIE. Taking you on an immersive journey to musical paradise, we simply couldn’t deny the strong talent held within the producer’s mind. To dive deeper into the project, we’ve decided to chat with EDDIE for an exclusive interview.
Can you introduce yourself a bit for some of our readers who may not know who you are?
Hellooo, my name is Edwin Beganovic more commonly known as ‘EDDIE’ [my nickname & artist name] I’m a DJ/Producer from Melbourne, Australia that has released and Is still releasing electronic music under deadmau5’s label ‘mau5trap’
What was your first experience with Electronic Music?
I had a few experience’s that were all in the same year that sort of shaped my love for electronic music….but in saying that I would have to say my first ‘live’ experience was the one that made me just forget about the “outside world” if that makes sense? I was 14 and it was an underage festival called ‘ the good life festival’ the line-up was ridiculous… from Avicii to knife party to Skrillex to Dada Life and deadmau5, this festival just had so many good acts and hearing all that music live just blew my mind and I really became a massive edm fanatic from then on. Looking back at it now I took a line-up like that for granted.
Being that you are native to Australia, would you say your background has musically influenced you in any sort of way?
Definitely in the early stages, because before I went to that festival I mentioned earlier, I heard a genre called ‘Melbourne Bounce’ from a bunch of my mates and it was technically the first sort of “underground “ type of music that I got into. As I started to produce I was making Bounce a lot and I eventually grew out of it.
I also listened to AC/DC my whole life, absolutely love the energy they bring and I feel like I’ve always tried to bring a certain type of energy to most of my music till today……so they definitely influenced me in that way.
What inspires you to make music?
Seeing my brand/music go places I wouldn’t of ever imagined is a thought and a major goal that gets me so excited. And its also something that I’ve kept proving to myself that I can do. That’s what gets me going, just all these ideas racing through my head that I want to get out and test and see reactions etc.
What are some goals you wish to achieve with your music?
Making a living from just playing shows/making music/merch etc. is a big goal at this point.
I also want to eventually make it to that level where I can just play my own ‘EDDIE’ shows/tour with my own theme/visuals etc. I think that would be super cool and I mean having my own label one day would be amazing! Love inspiring people and there’s so much talent out there that needs to be heard… there’ll always be.
You’re on the brink of releasing another EP on mau5trap, what has it been like working with the label?
Yep, my 3rd ep with the mau5trap team! Its been great, they’ve really been supportive of what I do.
They’re not afraid to take something different from me….for instance my single from the ep ‘numb’ is a wild one and I’m just grateful they’re so open creatively, I love it.
Showing flashes of genius here and there I would say your future is very bright! What are you most excited/nervous about in the future?
Thank you very much! I guess I’m mainly just excited because I’ve got a load of music I’m working on and so much of it is already finished and ready to see the light of day, but I also realistically have no idea what the future holds for me….. so we shall see, stay tuned.
