It’s no secret REZZ is one of our favorites at Run The Trap. After announcing earlier in the summer that she was releasing her first album we’ve been patiently waiting to hear the final product. Today the wait ends as her long awaited debut album Mass Manipulation is finally here. Released via Deadmau5′ imprint, Mau5trap, the album features many collaborations with artists such as Knodis, 13, and Kotek. In case you are new to REZZ, this amazing artist has a sound very similar to that of Gessafelstein or Justice, with a bit more of a modern EDM flair to it. What is amazing is that she only started using Ableton three years ago, and has already gotten to the point where her music is enjoyed by people all over the world. In her debut album, REZZ shares eight mesmerizing and hypnotic tracks. Listening to the entire album reminded me of Dante’s Inferno but instead of going through the levels of hell, each song takes you deeper and deeper to lower levels of consciousness. If anything the album could be somewhat equated to the feeling one has when they have a bad trip (not that we’d know anything about that).
The first song off the album ‘Relax’ is one that builds up slowly giving you an eerie yet relaxing feeling. Through the use of hypnotic dialogue, REZZ grabs your soul and drops it into a different plane of existence. Once you’ve made the crossing over REZZ fleshes out this new dystopian world, delivering powerful kicks in the song ‘Diluted Brains’ to give a sense of exploring the dark and unknown. Following this track, the dystopian landscape is further expanded on with the menacing, bass-driven ‘Premonition’ which takes you further down the rabbit hole, only to find yourself on another deeper and scarier scenery. At this point the third track ‘Drugs!’ comes on, which gives listeners a feeling of being stuck in REZZ’s hypnotic world without any way out. From there, the rest of the songs keep you in that dystopian landscape, culminating in ‘Synesthesia’ which is undoubtedly the hardest track on the album and gives you the feeling of finally finding an exit from the murky underworld while facing off against the boss of a final level. In her final track, REZZ pulls you out of the music induced coma in ‘Ascension’, which takes elements from all the previous songs and combines them together to make an extremely dubby yet uplifting track that brings you back to the present. Without a doubt, REZZ has out done herself on her debut album Mass Manipulation. Check out the entire album below!
