As a nomad at heart, one of the ways I express my desire to travel is by finding music from abroad. Especially since I don’t currently have the bills to support a travel lifestyle, this is the closest I can get. In one of my late night Youtube digs, I came across a song from a Chinese group Higher Brothers titled ‘Why Not’. Now, this isn’t the first time I have heard of these guys. My roommate previously showed me one of their other songs titled ‘Made In China‘, which is also masterfully produced, but I was truly blown away by the sound of this song. Among some deeper digging on Spotify I found that this song is a part of their full album titled Black Cab which, spoiler alert, is absolutely nasty. What truly stands out with these guys is that musically they are exactly on the same page with the current trends in rap music here in the US. Nothing over the top, these guys take a lo-fi approach to hip hop that is akin to rappers like XXXtentacion, all while giving their music more finesse and making it very catchy. Check out the lyric video for the song that just came out, and without a doubt prepare for Higher Brothers to be a name you hear more often on this site.
