Known for his meticulously crafted electronic productions and cinematic soundscapes, Canadian producer OVERWERK is taking an unexpected creative turn with his ambitious new project, INDEX. Stripping away the pounding drums, intricate synthesizers, and larger-than-life production that have defined his sound for over a decade, the acclaimed artist is revisiting his catalog through a single instrument: the piano.
Spanning 54 tracks, INDEX offers a fresh perspective on OVERWERK’s musical evolution, reimagining familiar compositions as intimate solo-piano arrangements. The project began rolling out on October 14 and will unfold chronologically across 14 weekly medleys, culminating in the complete album release on January 14, 2027. By removing the elaborate production of the originals, OVERWERK allows the melodies and emotional foundations of his music to take center stage.
Adding another fascinating dimension is the project’s accompanying visual concept. OVERWERK, born Edmond Huszar, has created a series of cinematic films featuring a digitally rendered robotic player piano performing his compositions while he sits nearby as a silent observer. Spanning more than two and a half hours of original film, the visuals explore the relationship between technology, creativity, and artistic identity, reversing the dynamic between the producer and the machines that have long shaped his music.
For an artist whose creative vision has consistently blurred the lines between electronic music, design, and visual art, INDEX represents a bold new chapter. Rather than simply revisiting his past, OVERWERK invites listeners to rediscover the melodies that have been there all along. Check out the project and its accompanying visuals below.
