At the top of 2019, 300 recording artist YNW Melly was set to become the biggest new artist in Hip Hop thanks to his runaway hits, “Murder on my Mind” and the Kanye West-featured “Mixed Personalities.” Well, things quickly spiraled out of control for the Florida-native following an alleged murder charge stemming from an October 2018 incident involving the murder of two of the artist’s best friends. Arrested back in February, today, court documents reveal, found guilty, YNW Melly faces the death penalty for first-degree murder.
Officials state YNW Melly shot and killed former associates YNW Juvy (Chris Thomas, 20) and YNW Sakchaser (Anthony Williams, 21) before driving around for hours with the slain individuals in the car to develop alibis. Police later discovered the bodies and eventually issued a warrant for YNW Melly’s arrest. Melly then turned himself in as his music reached number-one on several major streaming platforms.
Florida is a capital punishment state and believes that it can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Melly indeed murdered his friends for “financial gain.” State officials say, “The murder was especially heinous, atrocious or cruel, and he committed homicide in a cold, calculated and premeditated manner.”
YNW Melly remains behind bars without bail and has pled not guilty while he awaits trial. More as this story develops.
