Last Saturday, Alison Wonderland performed at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco as part of her Awake Tour. She has been touring across the United States to promote her sophomore album, with this San Francisco stop following a stellar performance the weekend prior in Los Angeles. According to a letter penned by the Australian DJ herself, the show actually sold out with a whopping 8,500 person audience. Each and every one of those attendees was well earned and deserved, as she played an absolutely amazing show like no other.
Outside of DJ’ing and producing, Alison Wonderland also sings and is a classically-trained cellist. All of her abilities were showcased in the set, with Alison running back and forth between the decks, a cello, and a microphone to perform elements from her songs live onstage, including Good Enough and Easy. One of the most jaw-dropping moments of the night was when she both sang and played the cello for Awake, the final track of her album. Her stage presence was mesmerizing, and you couldn’t help but smile and sing along with her. In a true homage to San Francisco, she made sure to play some old Bay Area hip-hop favorites, including Luniz’s “I Got 5 On It.”
Time and time again, Alison Wonderland proves herself to be a multi-talented musician, and I was blown away by her incredible performance. It still isn’t too late to catch the rest of her tour stops, and I highly recommend going if you have the chance.
