Summer in New York is high season for concert goers and music lovers. With huge names like Governor’s Ball, Panorama, and Electric Zoo dominating the festival circuit, there’s plenty to see. That being said, it can be hard to throw an event worth going to in the summer months with three massive festivals being thrown all a month apart. And yet, the legends at BangOn! NYC manage to do just that. When they dropped their lineup in April, we knew we had to check it out.
Nestled near the water at the New York Expo Center in the Bronx, Elements had four stages, themed Earth, Fire, Water, and Air. This year they put the Water stage inside of a massive warehouse just in case it started raining, and added a ton of extra production to the space. SNBRN came onstage to a packed Water stage and played a joyous sunset house set.
The Water stage stayed packed for Goldfish who incorporated a live flute, sax, and piano into their performance (the flute was probably the highlight of the day). There’s nothing I can really say about Bassnectar’s performance; it was a balls-to-the-wall barrage of sound and light. The bass music don should never be missed at a festival.
Seeing Dirty Bird mainstay Justin Jay crush his set was spellbinding. His stage presence is incredible; he stays focused but loose and is always smiling. His set was made to be listened to with you eyes closed and hands up. It was a perfect way to end the night.
If you’re in the New York area and are looking for a great festival experience off the stomped down grasses of Randall’s Island, I can’t recommend Elements enough.
