TroyBoi Shares His Insight on Music Production and The Creative Process

RENDRD, has teamed up with SKIO to give young producers an amazing resource. RENDRD is a vancouver based creative collective and media outlet geared towards, “Proactive artists to express their ideas, promote all local art scenes transparently, and highlight subtle societal issues that make a huge impact in our day-to-day.”

If you are a music producer and haven’t heard of SKIO, then you have to change that. The SKIO team consists of a Grammy-winning music producer/engineer, experienced entrepreneurs, tech developers and entertainment attorneys. They banded together to , “Provide tools for artists and record labels to increase commercial opportunities and enable strategic collaboration by removing the legal and administrative bottleneck in the music industry’s new digital landscape.”

We are proud to partner with them to help premiere the next segment of their ongoing ‘Mentor Mondays.’ This ongoing series helps young producers with tips and collections of insights & philosophies from talented artists such as Stylust Beats, ill. Gates and now – TroyBoi.

The newest artist to share his insight is TroyBoi. The innovative artist behind hits such as “O.G” and “Do You?” is constantly pushing boundaries. Members of the SKIO and RENDRD community were lucky to meet with TroyBoi while in Vancouver for Seasons Festival to speak about the creative process. He is primed for a massive year – and we are lucky enough to have him share some tips.

Tips

1. Mix it up with other people’s sound. Remix and sample from other artists or a piece of work that inspires you!
2. Collaborating brings out your hidden qualities. Don’t be afraid to start a project with artist who have a totally different style than you, it often helps you shape your own signature sound and style.
3. Remixing can give life to old tracks through a new generation of sounds. And don’t we all love hearing killer edits of our favorite classics?
4. Surround yourself with good people, who are going to elevate you and give you motivation every day.
