On Thursday November 12th, hip hop veteran Freddie Gibbs hosted a launch event for his renowned cannabis strain at Los Globos in LA. ‘Freddie Kane OG’, the grandaddy of upscale strains, was finally released for public use, after much self-promotion and getting the toke nod of approval from kush connoisseurs like Snoop Dogg. The party also served as a listening session for Gangsta Gibbs’ new album Shadow Of A Doubt due November 20th. Woo, cross promotion!! Somehow, I got an invite to the event.
The Freddie Kane strain wouldn’t be possible without Chroncierge, the high profile marijuana curation collective responsible for growing the flowers, and Grow Division, the weed-centric marketing team behind distribution. We caught up with Eddie Donaldson of Grow Division for the inside scoop on the project.
“I’ve been in marketing for 20 years, working in entertainment and lifestyle. We’re just now starting to branch off into the cannabis industry; it’s a natural marriage for us to be in the ‘entertainment meets weed’ culture.” Donaldson is no slouch to this new industry, having previously worked with Slightly Stoopid on private strains and has several clients lined up for 2016: “We’re talking to a lot of people. It will be a very interesting year for us here.”
As for the strain itself, Freddie Kane is described as a “lush and vibrant green nugget dipped with THC crystals”, weighing in at 29% THC. “this is not your average OG high”, the report warns, and I’ll be damned if that wasn’t perfectly accurate. Pick up a delivery from Chroncierge and get ready for Gibbs’ new album out on Friday 11/20.
