Carnage is a very polarizing figure in the dance music community. He initially gained a popularity publishing his festival trap remixes and some collaborations with Borgore. He’s one of the artists that truly has a love for his haters.
Recently Carnage was signed onto Razer Music which is self described as, “The ultimate resource for digital music creation and performance. The Razer Music portal works with producers and creators, providing an easy-to-use location to share content, trade secrets and tips on digital music production and performance.”
Carnage’s first video with Razer was an ‘808 Tutorial’ that just created a fountain of memes, and for the most part was not taken very seriously…at all.
Upon receiving hateful tweets, Carnage took to twitter to either defend himself or once again say “I truly don’t care what you say.” Someone called him out on using a pirated version of Sylenth…and Sylenth responded. Seriously.
Less than a week later, all evidence of being a part of Razer music was quickly removed from Razer’s social media pages and website with no public statement from Razer or Carnage. Billboard was finally able to get a statement from Carnage regarding the whole fiasco, where he claims that Razer had given him the laptop with the pirated version of Sylenth1 and they claimed to not say anything on Carnage’s behalf.
To whom it may concern,
I wanted to write this to set the record straight about Razer.
A couple months back Razer hit me up about a partnership opportunity which resulted in me participating in my now infamous “808 Tutorial.” My debut album, Papi Gordocomes out this Friday (Oct 30th), so I thought this was a great collaboration. In advance, they provided me a laptop and software and I agreed to prep the laptop with everything necessary for the day of the tutorial.
Fast forward to that day… I’d just returned home from a busy weekend of shows and to be honest I’d completely neglected to setup the laptop with the sessions I intended to use, as well as the necessary plugins. Needless to say I wasn’t totally prepared for the session. For that, I’ll assume full responsibility
Before getting to the studio, though, my management told the Razer team that I wasn’t exactly prepared but that I would still be there as planned and would essentially just sort something simple on the fly. The production company doing the shoot sent my manager a email confirming that they had a computer loaded with software on site (check out screenshot of the email below). When I got to the studio, we discussed attempting to quickly setup the laptop that Razer originally sent me, but this took a lot of time and there was an issue with Wi-fi in the studio so I couldn’t set the laptop up properly. And this is where the story begins
In order to get through the tutorial without it taking forever, one of the production staff handed me a laptop that was fully loaded with software. THIS LAPTOP, WHICH WAS NOT MY LAPTOP, BUT PROVIDED DIRECTLY BY THE VIDEO PRODUCTION CREW is what was used in the tutorial. From the USB, I loaded my project files onto the laptop they’d provided and my focus in the moment was to simply get through the tutorial. I paid no attention to the fact that the computer they gave me had cracked software!
The tutorial comes out and of course, everybody has something to say. People are critiquing everything from my production techniques, to the way I talk. This is something I’ve gotten used to over the past couple years. It comes with the territory. Fine, I’ll take it.
Then, out of nowhere comes the mention of me using a cracked version of Sylenth1.
For once, I actually decide to hold my tongue. I know what’s true so before saying anything publicly to disrespect Razer, I reach out to them and ask for them to issue a statement making things right. They knew what happened, and they decided to do nothing.
Prior to this, we’d both discussed the negativity surrounding the tutorial and agreed that for the sake of both of our brands it’d be best that the tutorial be taken down. That decision was made together. This was mutual…just to set the record straight.
At this point, I feel I’ve done my best to approach this situation in the most diplomatic way. If Razer isn’t willing to accurately address the issue, I have no choice but to defend myself. I didn’t get this to this place in my career by backing down to anybody and I damn sure am not going to start now. The truth is the truth. I gladly invite anyone from Razer or the production staff on the shoot to respond to or dispute any of this.
– PAPI GORDO
Yikes. We’ll see how this pans out and if it will affect the press on his debut album release for Papi Gordo which is slated to drop October 30th.

He's such a liar ! Carnage pisses me off he says he worked hard to get to where he was but for those who don't know kshmr was his room mate and kshmr probably got him in. He never worked hard at all don't let this letter fool you all. It's a pr stunt to advertise his new album btw don't buy it and if you do but it then you're at least supporting the other producers who produced it for him 🙂 let's fave it even in the video he had no idea what the fuck he was doing I doubt anyone cares sbout the cracked software and is more pissed off that he got his melody out of key and out of sync and complete fucked the eq. How does a spinnin bsnger by him sound that good but what he shows it sounds like a 5 year old dribbled on the keyboard. GTFO carnage no one is buying this shit
Michael Jordan Sanchez says
It wasn't necessary for Carnage to "set the record striaght" we all found out from the video tutorial for ourselves that he's an absolute joke and knows little to nothing about producing and mixing. The issue wasn't cracked software, it was somebody making it for as long as he has in this industry without any of the skills.

the butthurt is real.

I would do a better video and I am not even where i want to be at when it comes to production. Carnage is a joke. Simply put if you can't properly communicate how you produce maybe just maybe you don't know how. Then tries to put all the blame on Razer for freaking giving him pirated software? Uhhh no take responsibility and quit being a joke, you and many others are why EDM is being taken as a joke. Oh and haters? Or people who know how you really got famous? Even others in the industry bigger then you know your secret. I swear man. he deserves to lose it all BUT he won't because people support this lying gordo. Makes me mad because by the time it comes to me coming into the industry it probably won't be there anymore cause of guys like him. But lets hope that's not the case.
Oh also anybody who signs an official statement as "Papi Gordo" definitely has my sympathy.

The EDM industry…Fuck-_!
It's hard to keep up the grind and "BELIVE" that #nevergiveup is even close to a worth while mantra at all to keep #nevergiveuponyourpasion a realistic mind set-_!
Soooo, many unworthy non creators are living the dream, when soooo much talent is ignored
-_!
But, who gives a fuck any way…Right…Right?

Download his album for free, he doesn't seem to mind stealing the software he uses so why pay for the music he pays others to produce for him anyway? He's a fuckin' fraud and an example of everything that's wrong with EDM and why it's headed in a downward spiral.
Keith Cetra McClellan says
Jake Ferris What exactly is he butthurt about? He's right, Carnage showed he has absolutely NO knowledge about how to produce in that tutorial and that's wha the real joke is, not the pirated software. He's a fraud and you'e a lemming white knight fucboi.
Daft Schumacher says
So he has ghost producers and ghost writers? …. pretty sppooooooky #halloween

But if I downloaded his album for free, I would have a lot of megabytes wasted on cancer

People over think music production. If you're making something you like, it does not matter if you make it "properly" or not. It essentially is an artform and there is no correct or incorrect way to do things. Is he original? Sometimes. Does he know everything about production? No. But damn, he has helped the scene grow in a big or small way. At the end of the day, if he doesn't make his own tracks, he ends up being a performer. A performer that many people love. If you absolutely hate him and how he has lasted that long in the "industry", what ever the fuck you think the "industry" is, then I challenge you to make it into the "industry". Go and try to create your "proper" music, your "original" sounds, your own brand, and see how far you get. See how "better" your music is compared to him. How much more people enjoy your music and how hype can you get a crowd with your material. It's not easy and at the end of the day it should be about the music. Just take it for what it is. Music, sounds. Thats it. We have no need to be negative as a community. Music is music and to each their own.
Taylor Page says
If this was true I still don't care. Your job is to make music and DJ. Why the fuck couldn't you be prepared? Late night spending your overpriced ticket money in a club gawking over underage strippers? There's a million producers out there who would have given both feet just to be where you are. (Who could actually give an in depth tutorial and know something about production and enigneering.) Thanks for nothing. You prick.
