Like some moment of historical significance, I remember just where I was when I heard the first installment of Adventure Club‘s Superheroes Anonymous mixtapes. Feels too real to convey in this article. It was in that moment that their music grabbed hold of me, a point in my adult life from which there was no turning back. Here is something I wrote about volume 5, just over a year ago. And now here I am, a few years later, a self proclaimed anonymous superhero, out here in the streets keeping safe the sanctity of celestial vibes and sick music. Changing the world, one writeup at a time.
It is my honor to deliver to you the seventh installment of Superheroes Anonymous, Volume Seven: The Road to EZoo. For Adventure Club superfans, each one of these coveted compilations is highly anticipated. Some of us are probably already waiting for volume eight. Luckily these aren’t actual mixtapes, or we would have run the tape down so far the whole lot of them would sound remixed to literal death. The Superheroes Anonymous is one traditionally known to include bangers and fillers and drops and wubs and emotional lyrics mixed perfectly that never play out. I think I listened to volumes one, two, and three, thrice a day forever. Seven is no different from its priors.
You will want to listen to this mixtape, fam. It follows its six predecessors with the variety and style characteristic of Adventure Club. These mixes have always been good for finding hidden gems, and gaining insight into whatever v rare tunes Christian and Leighton are churning out at their high energy live shows. This mix features familiar names in both the original and remixing artists. There are simply too many to name; peep the tracklist below. Some quality tunes made this list, including Marshmello’s newest that was removed from Soundcloud a few days ago, “Invincible.”
And while the entire mix bangs, the finale stabs you directly in the feels, with a stellar mashup of the melodic, “Interstellar,” from Hanz Zimmer and the AC track, “Gold.” Everything about this mix, and this group stays gold, drips in gold, and carries its “Weight In Gold,” another heady remix to close out this glorious mix, clocking in at just under an hour. Adventure Club manipulates and mixes the familiar into unfamiliar territory, and sometimes it is so beautiful that I cry. It is scary out there, not knowing what is next, even when there is a track list directly in front of your face.
With mixes like this, you have to let yourself go and allow the entirety of your being to be guided through an 52:57 journey filled with bass, trap, house, dance, and everything inside and outside of those terms. If you can give yourself over to the music, you will be standing on the ground looking up at yourself soaring through the sky, holding the hands of caped crusaders.
Adventure Club holds the most special place in my heart. I wouldn’t be here right now if it wasn’t for their music, and the inspiration it has been to me. They have saved my life on countless occasions, and all of my fellow superheroes feel me on that one. They are our superheroes.
Look up in the sky. It is a bird. It’s a plane. No, it is none other than you and me and all of us anonymous superheroes. Superheroes Anonymous, Volume Seven: The Road to EZoo, is here.
