Daruma Vol. 002 [Free DL]

I know it’s getting hard to keep track of all the dope new music collectives popping up and I have to admit, I was sleeping on Daruma… that is, until their most recent Vol. 002 compilation.

The Daruma crew is comprised of talented young producers from across the globe and while there are some names you might recognize like Andrew Luce, TDY, and LVX, it’s exciting to see other names like Baht and Enzo Vangetti popping up who I recognize from past Team Supreme beat battles (among other things).

Vol. 002 leans more towards the ‘experimental’ side of the genre spectrum with each respective artist clearly digging into their production and structure with the purpose of sounding unconventional… but the resulting 16 tracks are so dense with surprises that its hard not to be completely drawn into the story/adventure each track has to offer. Greaser and Cobra were obvious favorites the first listen though (both have that kind of harder vibe to them) but I’ll certainly be paying more attention to 3 Roses (who is apparently the alter-ego of Kulkid–Utopia stood out to me, especially the jazzy kit at the end) and Masayoshi Iimori who both won me over with their respective approaches to this comp.
