The Hip Hop capital of the world is an eclectic place full of a variety of people and a rich music history. ATL DJ Speakerfoxxx (official DJ for Gangsta Boo) and her crew of music aficionados Karl Injex (nightclub owner, music encyclopedia) and Dr. Dax (original member of OutKast‘s crew) put together an enlightening documentary on the rise of southern hip hop history before OutKast solidified Atlanta as one of the major perpetuators of the genre today. I had the opportunity a year and a half ago to chat with Speakerfoxxx and her boyfriend Daniel Pollard a.k.a Heroes x Villains before a show in ATL and they both taught me so much about music. Both immediately inspire you by their obvious love and knowledge of the music of their city. When I saw that Speakerfoxxx made this documentary I knew it was going to be a legit look at how the story of the streets is looked upon by players in the game today.
They touch on how the Civil Rights Movement helped shaped the people involved in the beginning of the Atlanta hip hop game. How strip clubs that are large in numbers despite being in the Christian south have been less a place for debauchery and more a proving grounds for young artists. Producers and beatmakers of the hottest tracks heard all around the world frequent these clubs and have therefore shifted the attention of struggling young artists away from promoting their tracks to nightclubs.
