There are few producers who display the kind of work ethic and devotion to excellence that we find in Ta-ku. In the five years since his graduation from the Red Bull Music Academy he’s released 13 albums, started his own record label, and garnered the support of major artists like Baauer and Justin Timberlake. His most recent work, REϟTWERK VOL.II is yet another stunning example of why this producer is rapidly rising in the ranks amongst the upper echelon of the beat-makers.
This “collection of originals, reworks, [and] remixes” is brilliant in its diversity and depth and the production is absolutely flawless (if you haven’t already, I hope you’ll treat yourself to a modest subwoofer). This is one of those niche albums that’s just so well produced and so tastefully arranged that listening from start to finish actually feels like you’ve been on an adventure. Some of my favorites include I Love Beyonce, Electr(on)ic Relaxation, Hey Justin Pt.II, and JMSN – Love & Pain (Ta-ku Remix) but it’s hard to ignore the masterful production of other tracks like One Thing About Footwork and Sango – Owe Me (Ta-ku Remix). In fact, the more I listen to this album, the harder it becomes for me to pick favorites.
I have to rank this 9/10 (I went and bought a copy, Bandcamp sales go directly to the artist) and if you enjoy REϟTWERK VOL.II as much as I have, you should check out REϟTWERK VOL.I and Ta-ku’s 25 nights for Nujabes (R.I.P.).
