The New York Mayor’s office announced earlier today that Day 3 of Electric Zoo in New York would be cancelled due to the death of 2 festival goers and the illness of many others. Although the use of MDMA attributed to these deaths is not yet 100% confirmed, this is what the NY Mayor’s office has attributed to their deaths.
The official statement from the NY Mayor’s office reads:
CANCELLATION OF ELECTRIC ZOO MUSIC FESTIVAL ON RANDALL’S ISLAND
Due to serious health risks, the Electric Zoo music festival on Randall’s Island on Sunday, September 1st has been cancelled. The City recommended cancellation and the event promoters have agreed.During the first two days of the Electric Zoo music festival, two concert-goers have died and at least four others became critically ill and have been placed in intensive care at area hospitals. Definitive causes of death have not yet been determined, however, both appear to have involved the drug MDMA (ecstasy, or molly). The Electric Zoo organizers have worked with City officials to reduce health risks at this event, but in view of these occurrences, the safest course is to cancel the remaining day of the event
Electric Zoo Released Official Statements via Facebook as well:
The lineup today included the likes of Diplo (who was running a campaign to make the largest Twerk wall in history), W&W, Adventure Club, Krewella, Carnage, Clockwork, and many more.
It’s a sad day for the dance music community as a whole to see death’s like these occur, and it’s something that seems to be happening more often than ever before (with the 1 death at Hard Summer, as well as a recent death at Zedd’s first stop of his headlining tour) . We can’t stress enough that the dance music community please, PLEASE, be safe out there when attending music festivals; and that other festival goers keep an eye out for people in need in the crowd as well, and assist them however you can. Thoughts and prayers go out to the families and their loss.

So tired of hearing these stories, they keep popping up and its going to give the EDM community a bad name they need to crack down on this shit.

People need to understand that with drugs such as MDMA, if you take too much, you aren't going to be sick a few times and have a bad hangover, you are going to either damage your body seriously, or worse, it isn't the drugs that are killing people, its the the lack of understanding surrounding them which is so dangerous.
