GRiZ has had an absolutely huge couple of years. After introducing himself to many fans around the world via the festival circuit and his ‘Mad Liberation’ album it seems like the master of funk has not had time to slow down. He is back with a brand new album.
‘Say It Loud’ is an 11 track journey through GRiZ’s musical prowess as of late. If you have been to any GRiZ shows recently, you may have heard some of these sax riffs being tested out live, most noticeably, ‘The Anthem‘ and ‘Funk Party.’
Listening to the album, front to back, is almost a necessity to experience it the ‘right’ way. ‘Say It Loud’ has such a great flow to it. It has peaks and valleys in all the right places, leaving you time to catch your breath right before picking back up again. ‘Need This’ —> ‘It’s All Good’ —> ‘A Fine Way To Die’ is the best example I can give.
Compared to the last albums he has released ‘Say it Loud’ has a much more organic feel to it. Just by a quick skim you can hear much more live instrumentation sprinkled throughout. ‘Say It Loud’ keeps capitalizing on all the things we love about GRiZ so far, most noticeably the build up and crescendos that just make you want to scream before GRiZ drops off into a sax riff or a funk infused electronic wave.
GRiZ himself gave the best description for his newest album,
It is an album for everyone. This music is meant to be experienced, danced to, sang along with, felt… that’s what it’s all about. -GRiZ

Personally I think this album's a massive disappointment and just shallow and unoriginal. He's clearly catering toward his live audience, which of course makes sense, but as a longtime fan back to GK (and I doubt most new fans have any idea what that even is), I'll only be hanging onto 3 tracks from this album.
That being said, it's always interesting how movies and TV shows and books and every other form of entertainment can accept criticism, but music cannot.
