With August nearing, that means one thing in Chicago: Lollapalooza. Every year, Lollapalooza rents out Grant Park for what is now a four-day music festival filled with almost every genre imaginable. This year’s festival is being headlined by the likes of Flume, The Chainsmokers, Childish Gambino, and Ariana Grande. We’re headed back to Lollapalooza this weekend and have delivered our guide for this year’s festivities. Check out our 10 must-see acts of the weekend below.
Madeon
Madeon announced this week that his Lollapalooza set will debut his new live show for his forthcoming album Good Faith. With a new stage design, visuals, and the promise of new music, Madeon’s set is a no-brainer. Lollapalooza will be getting a preview of a show before anybody else in the world. Better yet, Madeon’s entire set will be live streamed on the Lollapalooza YouTube.
FISHER
FISHER is one of the hottest sensations of the year. If you’ve been to any electronic music shows in the last year or two you have definitely heard FISHER’s Grammy-nominated track “Losing It.” FISHER is there to have a great time and is going to make sure you are too.
Louis The Child
Hometown heroes, Louis The Child will be making their return to Lollapalooza. The last time they played Lollapalooza was 2016, and they played the Grove Stage, which is now the American Eagle Stage. They are finally back, and this time at the main stage. It’s going to be much more than just a dance music set. It’s going to be a proud performance from two young Chicago native producers. Come join the party.
Jeremy Zucker
Jeremy Zucker is the singer/songwriter you didn’t know you loved. Odds are you’ve heard one of his viral songs at some point. But don’t take the word ‘viral’ wrong. There are no gimmicks here – just some incredibly pretty music. Let Jeremy Zucker kick off your Lollapalooza the right way.
Said The Sky
For those that have not experienced a Said The Sky set, then stop by Perry’s at 3:30 for the most euphoric hour of music you’ll hear all weekend. Said The Sky’s set combines live instrumentation with his take on melodic bass music. Plus it will probably be the only time all weekend where you’ll be able to sing along to “Fireflies” by Owl City.
Win and Woo
Hailing from Chicago, Win and Woo are tasked with the holding down the 7:45 slot at the Tito’s stage. In past years, this slot has been reserved for acts right on the cusp of breaking into another level. Acts like NGHTMRE, Whethan, Wingtip, and Medasin have all played this set, and now Win and Woo will be handling the duties. Check out why these Chicago natives have been killing it lately.
Lane 8
With a lineup like this, it’s impossible not to have conflicts, and Lane 8 vs Manic Focus is one of my biggest conflicts. Luckily, there is no wrong choice here. Lane 8 is set to make his Lollapalooza debut at the gorgeous American Eagle stage. His unique take on melodic house music takes you on a journey unlike any other. It will be a shorter Lane 8 set, but don’t underestimate what he will be able to do in 45 minutes.
BAYNK
BAYNK blew me away during his Electric Forest performance. He brought future bass in a way that wasn’t repetitive, or overused, but instead his own flavor. Expect to hear a lot from his two EPs, along with some other music that will make you wish you are watching with someone special.
Chelsea Cutler
Chelsea Cutler used to be the name that you would recognize as the feature on many different songs. She has provided vocals on songs by the likes of Louis The Child, Manila Killa, Chet Porter, and Kasbo. But she’s much more than that. Her career has taken off with the help of her Sleeping With Roses mixtapes, collaborative work alongside Jeremy Zucker, and a recent feature on Kygo’s “Not Ok.” Her performances are emotional, energetic, and emphatic, making her an easy must-see act of the weekend.
Manic Focus
Manic Focus is bringing electro-soul to Perry’s stage, and it will be glorious. Manic Focus is the only artist like this on this year’s lineup, so he has quite a battle in front of him. It’s going to be unlike any set you’ll see all weekend, but if you want to just get down – then put Manic Focus on your schedule. With a new album coming out in the fall, we can expect to hear some album previews. Let’s groove, Chicago.
