ye. has been an absolute force to be reckoned with in the electronic music scene, and has been one of my favorite producers to watch this past year. Commonly known for his smashing hit Breath with Pluko, ye. has quickly risen to a tier of music producers that are competing with the best of best on the scene.
Following a complete rebrand, ye. has most recently released his new E.P. trails. An 8 track lucious journey through the mind of the New York native, trails feels like a reminiscence of an innocent time in our lives. The E.P. is filled with high pitched vocal chants and happy melodies, giving any listener the experience of a child-like, care-free take on the world. Two tracks specifically worth highlighting were released in anticipation of the full E.P. These singles are Forever Side and 2:38 AM.
With all of that being said, I got the chance to actually catch up with ye. himself, and ask him what his intentions were behind the E.P., and his thoughts on the debut. His answers may indicate a different interpretation of the E.P. entirely – take a look for yourself.
RTT: Can you tell me in your own words what 2:38 AM is about? It’s one of my favorite tracks on the E.P.
ye.: 2:38 am comes from a late night where I couldn’t sleep. I decided to open a project and work on it to capture that feeling of not being able to sleep and anxiously being awake and unsure in a sense. That project I worked on at that time ended up becoming the 2:38 we hear today.
RTT: What does this E.P. mean to you, both as a piece of art as well as for your career?
ye.: This E.P. means a lot to me. But it represents lots of work and time and experiences and struggle with trying to find a sound. It means a lot to me especially with all the amazing people that put their time into it as well. As a piece of art I hope it represents all the emotions and feelings that went into each track to give a full journey through my time making it sort. Sort of like following trails through the creative process of making it. For career I hope it represents the start of a new chapter and the beginning of something special musically.
RTT: What else can your fans look forward to in the near future?
ye.: I’m really excited to be playing Camp Bisco this year! It’s always a great event, and I’m looking forward to playing alongside such amazing talent.
On top of playing at Camp Bisco, ye. also threw down a vibey Electric Forest set, which can be streamed here.
If you still haven’t had a chance already, listen to ye.’s new E.P. trails on Spotify, or watch the YouTube video accompanied by visuals from the E.P. below.
