The 2018 Grammy nominations are here and this year’s contenders are massive. Kendrick Lamar topped the list with seven nominations for Album Of The Year (DAMN.), Record of the Year (“HUMBLE.”, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap/Sung Performance (“LOYALTY.” with Rihanna), Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album, and Best Music Video. Childish Gambino also racked up nominations for Record Of The Year and Best R&B Song (“Redbone”) and Album Of The Year and Best Urban Contemporary Album (Awaken, My Love!). This year’s eligibility period for the 2018 Grammys ran from October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2017. Other nomination highlights include newcomer Khalid, with nominations for Best New Artist, Best R&B Song (“Location”) and Best Urban Contemporary Album (American Teen), and 6LACK, with nominations for Best Rap/Sung Performance (“PRBLMS”) and Best Urban Contemporary Album (Free 6LACK). DMV hip hop artist GoldLink also made the elite list for Best Rap/Sung Performance (“Crew”). As for electronic music, Calvin Harris swung a nomination for Producer Of The Year and The Chainsmokers landed on the Best Pop Duo / Group Performance list for “Something Just Like This” with Coldplay. Odesza also made a splash with nominations for Best Dance Recording (“Light Of Sight ft. WYNNE & Mansionair”) and Best Dance/Electronic Album (A Moment Apart) alongside Mura Masa for his debut self-titled album Mura Masa.
The 60th anniversary of the Grammys is monumental with the amount of new talent taking over the nominations and industry favorites like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran and The Weeknd being left almost entirely off the list. In addition, this year marks the first time since 1999 that no white men have been nominated for one of the biggest awards Album Of The Year. If one thing’s for sure, the 2018 Grammys are sure to be epic. Check out the nominations from select categories below and the full list of Grammy nominations here.
