Cofresi‘s latest album, Nuveau (pron. “new-view”), comes laden with the same depth characteristic of the producer/performer’s previous work, but this album achieves a stylistic consistency on parr with his already killer production chops.
Make no mistake, Cofresi’s 2014 album Avant Suede turned heads with directionally surprising tracks. But Nuveau is a more assertive exhibition of the artist’s live performative skills showcased through both his deft command of live drums and nimble navigation around a Novation Launchpad.
Check his mean multi-disciplinary performance talents:
His exploration of future beats stems from his on-going experiment with the blank space in his tracks, imbuing what sounds he does choose to include with more purpose when juxtaposed against what’s absent.
Highlights include Nuveau‘s intro track, “Flute,” centered around a haunting, Old World-flute sample bolstered with live drums and cliff-rattling drops.
“Mode,” premiering as a Run The Trap exclusive, is another up-tempo track with chirping future synths rendered more powerful in contrast to the calculated moments of blank space, sonic lulls without which the track’s elevated energy wouldn’t be as prevalent.
With Nuveau, Cofresi continues to develop a unique sound that blossoms from a riveting trap-style high hat flavored with live drums reminiscent of a mellowed breakbeat. His formula for up-tempo future beats is an expression every bit informed by performance as on production, which realms, for Cofresi, continue to be inseparable.
