Fresh off a major rebrand, SPAG is returning to his roots with SPAG PACK 001, a collection of six unofficial remixes and bootlegs available now as a free download via SoundCloud. Flips and remixes have played a major role in Mischa Reining’s career since his early days as Spag Heddy, making the free pack a fitting way to give back to the bass community that has supported him for more than a decade. Built entirely around tracks he loves, the release finds the veteran producer putting his own spin on each record while embracing the bootleg culture that helped shape his sound in the first place.
“Dubstep gave me a career, and flips & remixes were a huge part of that journey,” SPAG shares. “I’ve spent years taking tracks I love and turning them into something of my own. Now I want to give some of that energy back to the community that made this whole thing possible.”
The project arrives during a new era for the producer, who retired the Spag Heddy moniker earlier this year after nearly 15 years. Rather than a complete reinvention, the transition to SPAG has seen Reining sharpen his signature sound into something darker and more deliberate, leaning further into grit, distortion and raw energy. The shift has also brought a stripped-back visual identity inspired by punk and skate culture, replacing the colorful, playful aesthetic long associated with Spag Heddy.
After introducing the new chapter with “Messiah” in March and the THIS IS: SPAG EP in May, SPAG PACK 001 brings things full circle by reconnecting with the remix-driven approach that helped build his career. With more than a decade of releases, international touring and support from the likes of Skrillex, Excision, Subtronics and NGHTMRE behind him, SPAG continues to push forward without losing sight of where it all started.
