Naya Rockers, in association with Floki Studios, have just unleashed Higher Education, an 11-track benefit LP uniting reggae, ska, dub, and New Orleans R&B heavyweights to support Kingston’s historic Alpha School of Music. Recorded across 15 studios in five countries, the project features Grammy-winning artists, engineers, and musicians, anchored by the 10-piece Naya Rockers band with legends like Earl “Chinna” Smith, members of The Skatalites, John Brown’s Body, and Slightly Stoopid.
From Clinton Fearon’s opener “Come With Us” to Mad Professor’s closing dub, as you’ll hear below Higher Education delivers a global journey through roots and rhythm. Standouts include Ivan Neville’s title track, Sister Nancy’s “Teach The Youths,” Stephen Marley’s “The Right Path,” and Queen Omega’s “Words of Wisdom.” Rising star Hector “Roots” Lewis adds depth with “Thanks,” bridging reggae’s foundation and future.
Mixed by Stephen Stewart (Bob Marley, Third World, Steel Pulse) and Naya Rockers founder Nathan Sabanayagam at Kingston’s Tuff Gong and Anchor Studios, the album embodies an international effort made with soul, precision, and purpose. More than music, Higher Education is a call to invest in the next generation of Jamaican artists. Hear what we mean by streaming the project below and be sure to turn your speakers up for this one.
