After it was revealed that Porter Robinson would be curating his own festival, it nearly broke the internet. The chance or even the thought that one of the most influential artists in electronic music would be doing things his way for one full weekend in Oakland, California left fans starstruck. The possibilities were endless with Second Sky Festival as fans anticipated a large showcase of Porter’s tastemaking abilities.
A lineup consisting of Porter Robinson, Madeon, Cashmere Cat, G Jones, Nina Las Vegas, Chrome Sparks, Kero Kero Bonito, Anamanaguchi, Wednesday Campanella, and Virtual Self was aimed to expand the tastes of the thousands of music lovers in attendance. Offering various styles of music, Porter’s curating abilities proved worthy as there wasn’t one set that didn’t leave fans entertained. Whether it was Wednesday Campanella’s obstruct fan interactions, KKB’s wicked stage presence, or Anamanguchi’s amazing visuals; it all tied together to create an experience people wouldn’t forget.
With over 8 thousand in attendance and over 30 thousand watching at home, there’s no denying the influence the festival had over the electronic music community. The performances were special in many ways, Madeon’s debut “Good Faith” DJ set not only gave concertgoers a taste of what’s to come, but upgraded the nostalgic feelings we were looking for. All to cap it off with a surprise Skrillex appearance on Sunday. Porter’s only worlds set of the year might be the last ever. The performance was accompanied by ample pyro and new live edits. Leaving fans incapacitated the heartfelt speeches we received from the artists’ end sent us home with warm hearts in full admiration for the headliner.
Bringing his vision to reality, everything paid off for Porter Robinson. On his never-ending quest to creative freedom, the artist has taken his brand and music to places not many people can relate to. The food, the art, the crowd, it was all perfect and nonetheless a great representation of the positivity Porter has provided since dropping his debut album. We look forward to next years edition!
