Vincent has been a RTT favorite for a minute now so we’re more than excited to include his ‘Dua’ flip in the 10th spot on our list. Everything about this track is high-energy, from the infectious rap verses to the in-your-face, metallic trap drop.
9. RL Grime – Feel Free
Remember when this song was an ID? We were HUNGRY for the official release. ‘Feel Free’ is one of the heavier tracks on RL Grime’s anticipated NOVA album and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Grime’s expertise in creating different styles of music is on full display here as an ethereal, organic introduction paves the way for the high-octane trap drop.
8. What So Not & Skrillex – Goh
Was there a more anticipated track of 2018? It’s hard to say. What So Not first wrote the demo back in 2014… after four years of tweaking with Skrillex we finally got the final version of ‘Goh.’ Every section of this song effortlessly creates a different emotion – a quality that truly sets this song apart in 2018.
7. RL Grime – Pressure (TYNAN Remix)
While this track just recently dropped, we were hard-pressed to not include TYNAN’s insane ‘Pressure’ remix in our top 10. The second drop had fans thirsting over the official release for months, easily being one of the most inventive and hard-hitting song out of all of the official NOVA remixes to be released.
6. PEEKABOO – Maniac
On Soundcloud this track is tagged with the genre ‘Freeform Bass’ and it’s easily the most fitting description. PEEKABOO had an impressive year and this track is clearly evident of that. The build-up is just tense enough to have you salivating even before the first drop. No wonder Bassnectar keeps playing it out!
5. Party Favor X Baauer – MDR
When two huge artists like Baauer and Party Favor link up expectations are always high. ‘MDR’ blasted through those expectations and more; it’s easy to see why the track nearly has 1 million plays on soundcloud alone. On top of this, the two producers not only gave us a great trap drop but threw in an insane DnB-inspired section as well, making for an entertaining and genre-bending collaboration.
4. Eptic – Watch Out
It’s hard to find a record that goes as hard live as Eptic’s ‘Watch Out’ does. Everyone from Skrillex to Marshmello played this one out and it’s easy to hear why once you get to the first drop. Eptic (as always) dropped a ton of heat this past year and we can’t wait to see what he’s got in store for us next.
3. Hekler & Gladez – 404
Hekler and Gladez both had huge years and it all started with their ‘404’ collaboration. If you made your way to any bass music set in 2018, odds are you heard this at least once. The break right before the drop will leave you just enough time to catch your breath before going ballistic.
2. Boombox Cartel – Moon Love (feat. Nessly)
Boombox Cartel’s production has always been next level, but their “Moon Love” original – in particular – is truly a work of art. The hip-hop/trap hybrid set a new precedent for how hard 130-bpm trap can go, and Nessly absolutely killed the feature. We can’t wait to see what Boombox Cartel has in store for us heading into 2019 and beyond.
1. ODESZA – Loyal
It’s only fitting that the #1 spot goes to ODESZA for finally dropping the trap banger they’ve been sitting on and teasing at live shows for years. From the epic drums to anthemic melodies “Loyal” is captivating from start to finish, and is easily the best brass-driven trap song to grace the world since TNGHT’s ‘Higher Ground.’ Its also been featured in Apple’s latest iPhone commercials, only adding to the track’s exposure.
