Costa Rican beatmaster JLEON has released his second full-length EP to Sleeveless Records.
Future EP is an earthy and enticing yet dark and industrial vision of a future sparse with remnants of humanity. JLEON’s production prowess is amplified through its masterful sound design and variety of style, with each track featuring its own distinctive yet solemnly intriguing composition.
Future EP is a symphonic whirlwind of seemingly disparate sounds interwoven into a boiler of fresh and angsty beats. Highlights include its opening track “Digital Symphony”, a rhythmic cacophony of classical and electronic sounds molded to a glitchy, hip hop-driven tune. We hear a different side of JLEON in the wistfully mellow yet uptempo “Rezz-o-nance”. Then visions of a bleak, industrial future are evoked in the album’s seductively creepy title track “Future“, featuring fellow Sleeveless Warrior Kowta.
In just a few years, JLEON found his place in the bass music realm and has been creating uniquely deep, heavy beats ever since. He has collaborated and performed with bass music icons such as Alix Perez, Buku, Sleeveless Records’ founder Stylust. He takes inspiration from styles in his native Costa Rica, and fits right in with the other heavy-hitters in the Sleeveless Records West Coast bass music arena.
