Ekali, when I read you social media post about your mental health, I had to take my time and read it a few times. I knew I wanted to write up a response. Not to leech off of your message to garner clicks, but try and help bring your message to more people. I can’t imagine the strength it took for you to write that all out.
2018 is a wild year. Society has literally never been as connected as we are today, yet at the same time a certain sense of disconnection exists. Whether that’s a good or bad thing, that’s up to you. Mental health is no joke, and messages like Ekali’s are a great reminder of that. I know I speak for a lot of people when I say this, Ekali, but I’m still going to pen this open letter to you.
Thank you. Thank you for using your platform as a way to help spread a message that sometimes may be lost. Thank you for sharing your story and giving us another window into your already public life. Thank you for being an advocate and using your influential voice to help spread a message of love, respect, and just being a good fucking person. Thank you for battling every day, and sharing your gift of music to the world.
Sincerely,
Everyone.
