The premise of Mass Appeal’s Rhythm Roulette series is pretty simple. They take producers into a record store, blind fold them, and make them choose three records. They then have to create a song sampling only these three records. Mass Appeal has had artists like Mr. Carmack, 9th Wonder, and many others.
For their latest episode they caught up with rising star Mura Masa. He selected Luis’ “Dreamt Takes” and Cognition’s “The Road” as well as William Basinski’s “A Shadow in Time” which he admits he samples all the time. Watch the young master take sample these records and turn them into a futuristic disco track below.
