Skrillex released his highly-anticipated remix of Kendrick’s “Humble” just yesterday. Some listeners were upset that the official remix sounded much different than the version Sonny had been playing in his sets (He couldn’t get the samples cleared), and there’s already more controversy about the remix.
Once the remix officially dropped, fans and producers a like started noticing the similarities between the remix and a 9 month old original from Dallas producer Medasin. Upon hearing the remix medasin posted now-deleted tweets saying that the remix sounds too similar to his original Territory.
Check out both of the tracks below for comparison:
It’s clear that both of these songs sound Very similar, however Skrillex said he didn’t know who Medasin was until yesterday. Medasin’s tweets below make a good case about Skrillex’s knowledge of Medasin’s music.
The two spoke over facetime as mentioned in the first screenshot of tweets.
It’s hard to say if the song was actually inspired by Medasin, but this being a complete coincidence seems hard to believe. Many know Skrillex as a good person within the scene so it’s unlikely he intended to do anything malicious in this case on purpose. As of now the “beef” seems squashed and seems like everything is resolved.
