Summer is slowly coming to an end, and in Chicago that can only mean one thing. North Coast Music Festival. Per usual it features a fun, assorted lineup with all sorts of music. It spans EDM, hip-hop, rock and even some good ol’ funk music. Kick off Friday with Deadmau5 b2b Eric Prydz, Saturday hosts Whethan, and Post Malone, and Sunday will host Ganja White Knight and Elephante….just to name a few. We got so excited that we highlighted some of the acts we are excited to check out at NCMF. Tickets are still available! Hope to see some of you out there. Check out the full lineup below. Have fun!
North Coast Music Festival
Primus
Somewhat of a departure from “normal” North Coast acts, Primus is definitely a treat that you need to see. If you aren’t familiar, get familiar, because Les Claypool’s slappy bass and lead vocals are about to take you on a trip to “what the f*ck am I listening to” land. Most people will recognize some hits (especially if you played Tony Hawk Pro Skater), but these boys can jam, so even if you don’t know any songs, you’ll definitely be dancing and enjoying one hell of a live performance. Check them out at 7:15 on the North Stage.
Lil Dicky
Far far more than just you’re favorite goofy white rapper, Lil Dicky is probably my most anticipated act to see this year. While his hits definitely make you laugh, Dicky has some of the best technical rap in the game right now (fight me, hip hop nerds!). His stage presence is next to none, and I’m sure his antics will put the crowd in a great mood. Be sure to stop by his stage if you want to satisfy that hip hop itch, and brace yourself for one hell of a show. Listen to what Lil Dicky is capable of at 7:30 on the North Stage.
Skepta
If you aren’t listening to grime, what are you even doing with your life? Skepta is one of the main movers and shakers in the genre right now, and if haven’t seen him live, I suggest you change that this weekend. I saw him on a Tuesday, and it was one of the craziest shows I’ve ever been to, so I can’t imagine what its like when people don’t have work the next day. His DJ is going to blow out the speakers, and Skeppy will have the crowd in the palm of his hand the entire show. Prepare for countless crowd hyping reloads at 7:45 on the Coast Stage.
Autograf
Can you say…hometown throwdown? The Autograf boys are returning to their hometown of Chicago to play one of the city’s most fun festivals. If ‘vibes’ had a sonic definition, Autograf’s music would be it. They blend genres seamlessly into a dance party that is unlike any other. I don’t think there could be a better act to say goodbye to Summer with than Chicago’s own Autograf. Dance away what’s left of the season with these guys. Friday. The North Stage. 5:30. See you there.
Don Diablo
I know I know, “It’s not trap music” but first and foremost, Chicago is a house music city, and Don Diablo has a certain respect for dance music that is unmistakeable. He shares an energy on stage with his fans that is genuine, yet playful. He lives for mainstages and gives it all in every performance I have ever seen from Don Diablo. He even had the spunk to play Closer by Lemaitre into Helix by Flume in front of a HUGE crowd at EDC Las Vegas. Let’s see what he has in store for North Coast. Catch him on The Coast stage at 6:00 on Saturday.
Kasbo
Kasbo has one goal. He wants to make you dance and cry at the same time. His unique take on dance music is raw, it’s emotional, but will make you dance all at the same time. He debuted a brand new live show at Camp Bisco this Summer, and I can’t wait for him to bring it o North Coast. What a perfect set to kick off day three of a music festival. Kick off your Sunday with Kasbo on The Coast Stage at 2:45.
Honorable Mention – Chicago’s Most Wanted
Someone once told me – you can’t throw a music festival without great local acts. They are the ones that keep the scene thriving when big name music festivals aren’t in town. Week after week they keep dance floors in your city alive. They spend countless hours lurking the internet for the newest songs so they can impress week in and week out. Saturday from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM in the bass tent will feature ‘Chicago’s Most Wanted’ – an all star team of some of Chicago’s best local talent, showcasing what they do best. Come watch why Porn and Chicken, The Trap House and Light Em’ Up are mainstays in this incredible city.
