Manatee Commune, a project from producer Grant Eadie of evergreen Bellingham, WA, eases the grey descent into winter with his jolly-new single “Clay,” featuring the feathery vocals of Marina Price. The cloud-breaking track bubbles with melodic keys overlaid with Price’s sweet pipes and playful lyrics punctuated by cliffhanging drops that showcase a cleverness to Manatee Commune’s production, almost like a wink
Live, Manatee Commune’s performance employs various strings (he’s been seen onstage with a viola as well as a guitar) and percussion to decorate his ethereal organic samples with an intensely watchable quality aided by the knowledge that he’s also been known to perform without shoes.
That he began producing as Manatee Commune on the same evergreen-furred Western Washington University campus as his friends Odesza suggests that there’s something particularly enchanting among all those trees. Whatever ineffable quality it is, Manatee Commune understands it as music.
