Henry Fong may not run the trap in the traditional sense, but he makes a different kind of dance music that runs figurative/next level trap; that’s the type of shit we like. Culturally charged signature beats are wholly reflective of the deep soul of this very unique artist. His hybrid style mixes polar sounds together, adding reggae/island sounds traditionally structures like builds and drops, spicing up his dance tracks with a variety and newness unparalleled. It adds quite the quick to your ordinary shuffle.
Perhaps the most impressive of his tracks IMO is a very special mashup, believe it or not, on that defies the connotation of unoriginality in its meaning, using the original track made by Fong, along with Mike Hawkins and Toby Green called ‘Latch Steppa,’ combined with Disclosure’s hit ‘Latch.’ The rare bootleg is found mostly in other mixes and obscure corners of the internet; it is not uploaded to Soundcloud, and if it ever were for obvious reasons would have since its 11/13 release date been removed probably fairly quickly following the SC purge, where remixes and mashups of the most well known tracks were the first targets. Even though this particular use of Disclosure’s original is just one piece of this track, brilliantly juxtaposed with the signature stylings of none other than Henry Fong, quite possibly the only DJ/Producer in the game that can pull off this type of versatile mixing and mashing.
There truly is not another like him in this industry. Most recognizable by his very full, head of dreadlocks, extra long and very tite. Reaching down to if not past his ass, Fong has been growing them for something like 14 years, and they speak to his wild spirit. His sets are always hella live, from the vibrant tunes to the static energy of Henry Fong, audiences are never disappointed. Nothing about this artist is ordinary, especially compared to his DJ/Producer peers/colleagues. He is not white, he does not wear all black, and he is also a hella skilled surfer from SoCal. All of these differentiating qualities contribute to the originality of Henry Fong’s work in tracks that emulate the good vibes inherent to his person. Bless up and one love on this track.
This latest track has some big reggae sounds, bearing slight resemblance to ‘No Guns Allowed,’ the Major Lazer tune produced by Snoop Lion, especially in its introduction. This is probably more of a nod to the deep reggae vibes on this track, spreading peace and love through sound. Fong teamed up with booty music maker Reid Stefan on this track, featuring the vocals of talented American/Bermudian vocalist Collie Buddz; quite a special appearance, the presence of which takes this track to the next level.
