When it comes to Baauer, we are never not impressed with his undeniable, unparalleled musical wizardry. He continues to grow, and has evolved into one of the realest, rawest talents to ever grace the dance music game. There is something very legendary about him. His sound is so bold it makes an impact that requires little explanation, but to say that the music speaks for itself.
But like I said, it is without reason that we are even surprised. We should be accustomed to the abnormally high standard at which Baauer operates, set for himself by each of his younger selves achieving that standard, then challenging himself to do something different, more challenging, and so an even higher standard was set. We never know when this stroke of genius will strike, and sometimes people wonder about his return.
A year after the release of his acclaimed EP, ß, Harry Rodrigues aka Baauer surprises audiences with new music, a LuckyMe Records release, premiered with Zane Lowe as a Beats 1 World Record, and it is absolutely bananas. In true Baauer form, this track goes the f*ck off.
“GoGo!” is layered with distorted vocals and other heavy, elongated notes that fill the white noise between booming, carefully crafted drums. Those heavy beats are something signature to Baauer’s unique, ever evolving sound. The track itself progresses and evolves as the seconds pass, with each one comes the desire to move with the complex collection of noise that is finding its way inside you, going deep as the bass that runs through us. This track is high energy, yet maintains a slow, steady low whose weight levels the anxiety of fast-paced, high-pitched vocals. Bauer earned my respect and love a while back, but I am never not surprised and amazed at his ability to curate such a crazy sound, like the one found in “GoGo!”
