Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg hit the world with some rather surprising news in a public Q&A with the announcement of a ‘Dislike’ button on Facebook.
“People have asked about the ‘Dislike’ button for many years … and today is a special day, because today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it and are very close to shipping a test of it.”
A ‘Dislike’ button has long been desired by users of the site, mainly for the purpose of scorning certain subjects in their newsfeed. However, this is not the intended purpose of Facebook’s newest feature. Rather, Zuckerberg wants the ‘dislike’ feature to be used when someone posts a sad status or article, giving other users the ability to show empathy.
“We don’t want to turn Facebook into a forum where people are voting up or down on people’s posts. That doesn’t seem like the kind of community that we want to create: you don’t want to go through the process of sharing some moment that was important to you in your day and have someone downvote it.”
We’re anxiously awaiting for more details on this coming feature and how it will effect us at Run The Trap. This has the potential to be a big miss, but we’ll withhold further judgement until more details are made public.
