Diplo may be one of the hardest working in the music business right now. When he’s not busy working on his own productions he is teaming up with Skrillex for the highly sought after Jack U project. He just dropped a new album under his Major Lazer moniker with Jillionaire and a handful collaborators. He already has an extremely busy 2015 Summer festival circuit and planned with his very own touring Mad Decent Block party along with one offs at various festivals around the world.
He recently took time out of his busy schedule to sit down with The Sunday Times Newspaper to talk about music piracy, dance hall music and naturally…a bit of Kanye.
Diplo’s Thoughts On Music Piracy
“I don’t care if anybody – and you can quote me on this – trades my records, leaks my records. I don’t care. I can’t make money off the sales, but I’ll make money off doing shows, or selling merchandise.”
Diplo’s Thoughts on The Status of Dance Hall Music
“People don’t respect dancehall in general – they don’t treat it like real music. “Everybody is sampling it, everybody is taking the culture. Even rap. Kanye’s ‘Yeezus’ had three or four dancehall features on it, though you don’t really know they are there.”
Diplo on ‘Bad Press’ from not crediting a GIF to its creator
“People who didn’t know who I am known who I am now, even if they hate me. Is that a bad thing? Actually, no, in 2015 it’s not. Kanye proved that. All you need to do is be in their minds.”
