Skrillex cemented his name as one of dance music’s all time greats with the release of his debut full length record earlier this year, the highly anticipated Recess. Not only did Recess set the trend for a number of other producers who also released full-length studio offerings this year, but the album also turned out a grip of remixes that kept pushing some of the collection’s best cuts further onward.
Remixes by Jai Wolf and GTA have already scratched the surface, but the latest rework comes by way of Skrillex himself, teaming up with stylistic counterpart, Zomboy. The pair squash whatever rumored beef the two may have had by delivering an absolute heater remix of “Ragga Bomb,” that plays on both producers’ style in impeccable fashion. The tag-team “Ragga Bomb” remix subs the original’s drum n’ bass appeal for a more trap-inspired frame, where it seems both Skrillex and Zomboy put in all they’ve got to offer up a berating flurry of bass hits and demonic, distorted vocal snips that all come together as a dangerously fresh trap-step weapon.
Shrill laser fire laced throughout rattling hi-hat rolls dominates the track but at 2:29 a quietly placed vocal sample ties the tune together with, “just a bunch of guys out here, doing the best they can in a very competitive business.” A wider look at the track will highlight just that. This remix is one of Skrillex and Zomboy’s best outputs of the year. And even though everyone out there is trying their best to put up their best sounds, it is mighty hard to compete with these two, especially when they are in top-form.
