The PLUR community is up in arms after Mad Decent implemented rule changes at their block parties to create a safer environment, of which one rule included a ban on kandi. In what seems to be a never-ending feud over a very minimal issue in the world, a fan this weekend at Michigan’s Mad Decent Block Party decided to poke some fun at the rule change by throwing a piece of kandi at Diplo. This gave Diplo a chance to either continue handling the situation like a professional (which he has done, example here) or take more drastic route and throw the kid out or stop performing altogether. Not surprisingly, Diplo opted for the former and responded by urging all of his PLUR community to give him huge hugs. Props to you Diplo for handling this situation like such a boss.

Pshhhhh MIGO GANG
good
diplo can do no wrong
wrong.
wrong.
Do they regularly stop the show to talk on the mic at shows now? Handling it professionally to me would have been kept doing what he got paid to be at the event to do – play music for people to dance to.
Nothing excuses the idiocy of thinking banning jewelry will help protect anyone.
Kids hiding drugs in this "jewelry" and getting a few deaths on your Block Party because of it is a good escuse.
I guess once you start fucking Katy Perry, and becoming mainstream the fans and culture that built you up don't mean shit anymore.
Glenn, speaking *from experience* that's not where the "kids" hide the majority of their drugs. The only way you're stopping drugs from getting in is to require all women be topless, all heads be shaved and all body cavities searched. Banning plastic beads does jack shit.
your a fool. go Watch dj videos from the 80's
Sad. Just stfu and play music. Skrilly getting hit with a beer can is one thing. You got hit with beads man. You know how many ppl get hit with beads at Mardi Gras? Get over it. You made a big thing about Kandi…. did you NOT think that was just begging for some kid to toss some at you? Embrace the culture or stick to podcasts homie.
K.t. Domino Kids shouldn't go to these parties and use drugs anyway.
All their searching for with these beads is attention.
If people have trouble with the ban, start your own Plur Kandi party…
You're right. Children should NOT be at raves and using drugs. I'm all for a strictly enforced 18+ age limit especially because of how many older guys show up looking for drugged out underage ass. The kandi is absolutely not a safety issue or where the drugs are hidden and that stands.
I'm not going either way, I have more important shit. Going on anyway, but I don't patronize people or events that get shitty attitudes with attendees over petty things. If I'm paying someone to have a good time, they're MY bitch, not the other way around.
There is no evidence that banning Kandinsky will keep some idiot from taking drugs and dying at your party. There are proven methods that prevent drug deaths. Educational and harm reduction works, proven. Banning kandi is just stupid. It protects no one. Dancesafe is a good proven model. Banning jewelry is pure idiocy.
Michael Vilches Unless I'm mistaken and this is some sort of half-way hip hop/ dmc contest kind of thing, dance events simply don't stop the music to say "give this guy a hug". Granted I know that the quality of events has gone way down the drain during its resurgence here in the states, but to me this is pretty unacceptable both as a performer and even more so as someone that would pay to go to a party.
Yes responding to the crowd rather than stare at your laptop is still considered professional considering you are an entertainer not a CD player
you just said "skrilly"… sort your life out dude.
Derek Devaul your are listed at working at "stacking Paper". Unless you sort paper in to neat stacks for a living I couldn't give one shit about your opinion.
Trevor Lewis Like I said the quality of the events has gone down the tubes, from performers thinking either this or the stare at your laptop situation is acceptable to people throwing things at the performers – pretty sad state of things that have because the acceptable norm in today's dance music scene.
If you host the events yourself how can someone say embrace the culture? That's some hipster bullshit that you think the opinions of a few define the culture of the music environment HE is creating for HIS block parties. You want some free health care too while were at it? Self righteous fruits like you are where rules like these have to start because if not you've got idiots running rampant turning LA into Ferguson. Embrace education!
Never what he stated, but good opinionated paraphrase. You can't expect to be catered to and throw yourself under a bus at the same event. Pick your battles. Some of us want the right to pick on fat people for taking up too much of the dance floor but they've yet to make a rule on where I can stand based on weight lol
Trevor Lewis I'm sorry, you brought health care and Ferguson into this. I cant take you seriously.
You keep assuming vaguely referencing past events entitled you to call this clip unprofessional. Don't do that. What he did at this event is a surprisingly mature thing for a twerk party coordinator to do for his sweaty teen following. Don't get confused on where the $$ is just because you want to here a vibrator on sub's all night. There's much more music out there buddy
You don't have to. You aren't an investor or event coordinator. But you will see what I've said is true. Enjoy your brews and skrilly though
Bow down to the chief of music police everyone, Justin Ulrich is IN DA HOUSE
Jason Shatta DeSilva OHHH SHIIIIT comeback of the century right here yalllllll
"skrilly"… haha you chump. I don't associate plastic beads with the culture, doubt diplo aka dipply aka diplomie the homie does either
Why hide your drugs in kandi when you can hide them in your bloodstream? So much more convenient
Yuma ladies and gentlemen. Give Travis a hand.
Should I take a bow?
Of course dude! you earned it.
So you think kandi is a significant part of edm culture, honestly?
Kandi has been a part of the EDM scene since the early nineties. I would say it was somewhat a significant part of the scene. Could the scene survive without it? Sure it could, but is it really hurting anyone?
Oh yeah. And let people keep throwing shit at you?. Smh
Trevor Lewis Personally I wouldn't ever go to a dubstep or trap show, the music is all sorts of boring all on its own without adding an additional layer of the performers stopping the show to talk on a microphone.
Run The Trap is so far up Diplo's asshole it's ridiculous. Nothing about how he has handled this situation has been professional. It has been condescending and narcissistic.
With attention comes potential, and unintentional, harm. He has waded through it well, so far. Have you seen him frequently flaunting his private life? Your call is premature.
Most sane adults don't need Kandi.
It's a good start getting this EDM circus back to stylish clubbing.
Glenn Jaxx funny stuff.
Quit calling people boss. It's a kkk term. We are all cows to them. Buttocks is cow term. Bos is genus of cow. Move.
Lol auto correct. Bullocks.
