Snuggled into the heart of British Columbia, Shambhala Music Festival is a sight to see. This family run festival has no corporate sponsorship and with a moto like “it’s all about the people on the dance floor” you know you’re going to have a good time. They announced their headliners a few weeks ago, but started announcing their individual stage lineups today.
They began with the Fractal Forest and let me say, they’ll be bringing the funk again this year. The lineup features artists like Griz, Tropkillaz, Z Trip, A Tribe Called Red, Kill Paris and more. One of the best parts of the lineup though is seeing the resident artists that you can expect to get down every year. These include Stickybuds, Smalltown DJs, The Funk Hunters, Vinyl Ritchie, JPOD and others.
The Village was the second stage to be announced and the lineup is looking big. The bass is going to be booming with artists like Andy C, Liquid Stranger, Dimond Saints, Ookay, Pegboard Nerds, Protohype and more. The residents of The Village are top notch with acts like Excision, Datsik, ill.Gates, and others. This is also the home of the hip hop showcase with this year featuring Zion I, Sweatshop Union and others. There are two big surprises about this announcement though. First, Griz is going to be playing two sets this year. The second and the biggest surprise is that Bassnectar will not be returning to The Village this year. My guess is that he’s playing The Pagoda because that’s the only stage that can hold all of the people that will be at that show.
The third stage that got its lineup announced is their Living Room stage. This stage is set next to the river and the perfect place to stay out of the heat during the day. At night, the Living Room completely transforms. Headliners this year include Truth, Sabo, Sidecar Tommy, and more. The residents that will again be making appearances include Pumpkin, Mat The Alien, Organic Mechanic, Hoola, Dubconscious and more. The fourth stage to have its lineup announced is the Ampitheatre stage. They’ll definitely be running the trap this year with artists like Grandtheft, Thugli, Falcons, Lindsay Lowend, 123 Mrk, and G Jones all on tap. Residents for this stage include the Librarian. Skiitour, Yan Zombie, Longwalkshortdock, and more. Best believe I’ll be spending time at this stage this year. The second to last stage to get it’s lineup revealed is the new Grove stage.
The Grove stage is replacing the Labyrinth stage and Labyrinth lovers have been upset with the change to the stage. Personally, with acts like Emancipator, Opiuo, Odesza, Goosebumpz, and Phaeleh this stage should be rocking. There are acts that always played at the Labyrnth showing up as well like Desert Dwellers, Kalya Scintilla, Kaminada, and more.
They saved the best for last. The Pagoda lineup is as diverse as it is massive. Bassnectar will be making his return to Shambs. Moby, Skream, Justin Martin, TJR, Caked Up, What So Not, Gorgon City, The M Machine, Beats Antique, Hannah Wants, and plenty more are going to be rocking the main stage this year. Be sure to catch acts like Mat The Alien, Cut La Whut, Soup, and Ursula 1000 that you can usually find playing every year.
