With 2014 in full swing, the enormous amount of new music, side projects, tag teams, and blockbuster shows coming our way is exciting to say the least. With producers and DJs making a splash in the beginning of this new year, promising new material and creative new sounds have already begun surfacing left and right. At the top of the list of people to look out for, Skrillex and Diplo have made it clear that their voracious appetites for mayhem have never been more prevalent.
As Skrillex took a bit of a breather in 2013, Dog Blood, Sonny’s acid-techno, monster side project with Boys Noize, bulldozed fans across the world with a distinct sound and unmatched energy. In 2013, Skrillex also announced that he and Mad Decent madman Diplo, would be teaming up for their own side project called Jack U. Jack U has been sort of enigmatic, having only played a few sets at Mad Decent Block Parties, however now, news is surfacing about the duo’s big plans for 2014.
During a set of shows in Kingston, Jamaica alongside Major Lazer, Skrillex announced that he and Diplo have plans to release 5 tracks that they have had under the hood, sometime in 2014. The OWSLA-naut explained that Jack U would be more of a DJing partnership, although the two producers have a lot of joint material that is ready to be unleashed. He explained that Jack U would be a meshing of the best that Diplo and Skrillex have to offer individually, characterized by endless energy and both producer’s in-your-face styles.
As two of the world’s biggest, most in-demand producers gear up to headline HARD’s Holy Ship this week, you can be sure Jack U music will certainly be on deck. As for all of us who will be stuck in-land, we will be eagerly waiting for the side project of the year to come out of the gate with some huge new tunes.
