Due to constant copyright notifications & takedowns, the addition of advertisements, among other things, everyone seems to have a love/hate relationship with SoundCloud these days. Despite that, the platform continues to be an integral part of the scene, allowing anyone to put music out and have their music heard.
This week, SoundCloud released a little “stat” shot of the previous year. As it did across the board in 2016, Hip-Hop dominated the charts, with hip-hop artists nabbing up the titles for SoundCloud’s most streamed album (Chance The Rapper’s Coloring Book), most favorited track (Desiigner’s “Panda”), and most followed artist in 2016 (Lil Uzi Vert). The 80s seemingly made a bit of a come back too, with #vaporwave and #retrowave both gaining buzz on the platform in 2016. Check out the full “stat” shot of SoundCloud’s 2016 below.
