If you’re a fan of our love trap series then you should be familiar with ODESZA. They are an instrumental hip hop duo out of Seattle that had a massive year in 2013. They went on tour with Emancipator, Michal Menert, and Pretty Lights, as well as they had a highly successful release with their My Friends Never Die EP. These guys are primed for a big 2014 so be sure to keep tabs on them by following them on their social media accounts and check them out on their headlining tour over the western half of the US they just announced.

Exclusive Interview With ODESZA:

RTT: Who are you guys’ influences right now?

ODESZA: It’s hard to say. On Soundcloud you can listen to so many different people. Sometimes you don’t know who is playing but are like “this song is sick” and then start working on a song.

RTT: So you guys have been utilizing Soundcloud mainly? I know you had over 1,000,000 plays on your My Friends Never Die EP.

ODESZA: Yeah it’s crazy. Soundcloud has definitely been a good gateway to audiences and just hearing good music. It really is a gift because when it started it was so producer oriented and it was just musicians talking. That probably caused so many collaborations right there. Youtube and Reddit have definitely helped out as well.

RTT: I know you’re big into Australian music right now. Who would you like to tour with if you made it down there?

ODESZA: I mean, the obvious answer is Flume. There’s a lot of cool people though like Touch Sensitive, Yahtzel, and Ta-Ku.

RTT: What do you guys see the next year entailing for you?

ODESZA: We try to think big because why not? Other than mature and get better as musicians, we want to make something that is truly unique. Hopefully this new project that we’re working on will prove that. As long as we put in the work and time and we’re proud of it hopefully people will feel the same.
