Over the course of this past year we at Run The Trap have noticed a trend in what we, as well as others, were listening to. And more importantly what music we found ourselves playing on repeat time and time again. Music produced by Australian talent was taking over all of our playlists..
On our opinion, some of the highest quality, unique and innovative electronic dance music released this year has been coming from the land down under, and we want to familiarize you with some great examples of just that. It’s also unreal that although there are so many different artists involved in this post, you can always find some similarities in the style of their production. Here are 5+ reasons why the Australian music scene is absolutely killing it right now.
If there are any sick Aussies that we missed, just holler in the comments below and we’ll check them out. This post is subject to updates based on new discoveries ; ).

Flume

Is there anyone killing the game more than Flume right now? You can find Flume all over the place between the release of his Deluxe Edition Album this month to releasing songs with What So Not, his collaboration with Emoh Instead, to his collaborative EP with Chet Faker. This Sydney producer brings such a unique and innovative sound to his music and many of us here at RTT consider him to be in the top running for breakout artist of the year. He recently reached 5 million Soundcloud plays on his Disclosure – You & Me Remix and everything he touches right now is turning to gold. The future is bright for this musical genius and we can’t wait to see what else he has in store for us.

Ta-Ku

If you’re looking music that draws out the emotions in you, look no further than Ta-Ku. Hailing from Perth, Ta-Ku’s recent Songs To Break Up To album highlighted this talented producer’s ability to move you with his music. He is able to fuse his hip hop roots with electronic music wonderfully to make for some very unique production. Ta-Ku also has a number of fantastic remixes of numerous artists like Flume, AlunaGeorge, Empire of the Sun, and more available on his Soundcloud so be sure to check it out.

What So Not
Facebook | Twitter | Soundcloud
One part Flume and one part Emoh Instead, What So Not are one of the top musical duos out there right now. These guys first came together 3 years ago in a bedroom studio and now they are touring all over the world. Both are amazing artists in their own right, but when they come together something magical happens. From the release of The Quack EP earlier this year to their recent single Touched that they released to thank their fans, What So Not are taking over the game.

Wave Racer

Wave Racer has quickly risen to become one of my favorite discoveries of the year. This producer from Sydney has an impeccable ability to pump out amazing music with superb vocal work and melodies that will have you pining for more. Wave Racer will be a household name soon and he is poised to break out in 2014. Until then, let your inner hipster revel in the fact that you are ahead of the crowd.
