Those who are familiar with the Los Angeles beat scene will be no strangers to Low End Theory, the weekly Wednesday night started by Gas Lamp Killer, Daddy Kev, Nocando, D-Styles and Nobody at The Airliner not far from the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. With the help of Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Thom Yorke, Daedelus, Kraddy and other big names, Low End Theory has exploded into something far greater than just an eclectic night of bass music upstairs at a shitty bar (though I miss being able to show up at midnight and get in for free… the venue has since gone through a major upgrade and the entrance line extends well around the block ).Over the last few years, Low End Theory has become a cultural phenomenon; a rare, gritty look into the heart of a city that most assume is full of inauthenticity and superficiality. Check out this 20 minute documentary on Low End Theory and how its helped the dissemination of LA beat music throughout the world. Special thanks to the cats at POTATOwillEATyou for putting this together!
And seriously, if you get a chance to see the Gas Lamp Killer, take that chance. There’s nobody murdering speakers harder than this mother****er and he’s just coming off a near-death scooter accident. You can’t make this shit up.
