A long time ago, a group called AirBattle came across the inbox of an Anonymous Superhero, a writer for the dead but not gone Do Androids Dance (RIP). Their EP was futuristic and predictive of all of this forward thinking bass music that has been trending in the new face of dance music. As with a lot of artists, this duo rebranded and changed up their sound a bit, going a slightly different direction.
Here they are under the new moniker, SKULS, with a fresh sound that is still light years ahead of most of the dance music being played in clubs and popular in the mainstream. We at Run The Trap prefer to stay ahead of the times instead of publishing whatever tracks are trending or traditional to the sounds formerly known as EDM. Music that makes us feel something is what we are after. Talent is what we seek to bring to our readers.
That being said, here is a remix from these young dudes from San Francisco, CA. They’re talent speaks volumes for itself. It is amazing how these young kids from San Francisco rise to the challenge of making music that is actually new, not simply regurgitating the sounds of all the same sounding crap that is filling up our Soundcloud feeds. One of the most difficult tasks of remixing is taking something fresh, giving it your own spin, and creating a finishing product that is equally fresh but sounds nothing like the original.
This rip of Flume’s track entitled “Flame” featuring Moon Holiday takes the higher pitched, faster track with some very prominent vocals, and does just that. That doesn’t mean the vocals aren’t prominent, or the track isn’t as powerful as its original counterpart. SKULS just took all of the original pieces, and made them slower, dimmer, and darker; in the best way possible.
Listen up: the only risk is that you’ll go insane. But hey, we are all mad here. So let this get inside your head, and explore your dark side. We’ve all got one.
